27 August 1908 - 25 February 2001

The greatest batsman the world has ever known, Sir Donald Bradman, was born in Cootamundra.

Granny Scholz, the mid-wife who delivered Sir Donald Bradman on 27th August 1908, operated a small private hospital in the front room of the building at 89 Adams Street.

The cottage at 89 Adams Street, Cootamundra where Sir Donald Bradman was born, has been restored and converted to a Museum.

At the time of Bradman's birth, the cottage was the local midwife's hospital where expectant mothers would stay during their confinement. Bradman's mother is believed to have journeyed to the hospital by horse and sulky from Yeo Yeo (between Cootamundra and Stockinbingal) where the family lived for the first few years of his life before moving to Bowral.

Sir Donald's grandparents are buried in the Cootamundra Cemetry. Elizabeth died in 1924 and Charles in 1907.

He has often been described as an Australian National Treasure. His feats have charmed and captivated the world.

Bradmans Birthplace is situated at 89 Adams Street, Cootamundra and is complimented by the Memorabilia Cottage at 87 Adams Street. Bradmans Birthplace is registered with the Australian Taxation Office as a decuctible gift recipient. All donations of $2.00 or more, made to Bradmans Birthplace is tax deductible.
