Potential Rate Rise

Improving Facilities and Services – Can we afford not to?

Cootamundra is a great place to live and work but unless we continue to maintain and improve the facilities the growth of the town will be stifled.

Council recently undertook a consultation process with a cross section of the community to better understand what infrastructure was thought to be needed in the Shire.  This consultation showed that there were more than 20 items that were seen as in need of improvement. Cootamundra Library

Many of these are already being attended to; however, there remain major infrastructure needs that cannot be accommodated within Councils present budget.  These include the upgrade of the town hall, town pool and Council’s works depot.

Council has considered the upgrading of these and other facilities and concluded that unless there is additional revenue these facilities cannot be provided.  Council is therefore proposing to apply for a Special Rate increase of an additional 5% for 5 years commencing in 2010/2011 (1st July 2010).

Council believes it is important that all residents and ratepayers understand the issues that Council faces in providing improved facilities and understand the true impact of what is being proposed.

Therefore, Council has recently held five public meeting sessions at which the issues were explained and participants were given the opportunity to ask questions and listen to the questions asked by others.
Council understands that some residents were unable to attend these sessions so a shortened version of the Powerpoint Presentation used at the public meetings, along with a rate calculator that can be used to gauge the affect of Council’s proposed rate increase on individual ratepayers, can be accessed by clicking on the links below.
